Knutsford makers market

Food

Sunday was a joyous day, I took my mother, sister and friends to the Knutsford makers market!

It’s great….loads of tasty stalls offering everything from baked bread to sweet scotch eggs. Not only that, but there are stacks of artisanal goods stalls too!

Whilst there we decided to get our nosh on and I treat my self to some delightful Turkish street food.

Naughty train treat

Foodie

I had a long day yesterday. I took the train to London (to speak at the public policy exchange) starting at 5.50 am and by the time my return train arrived at 7.20pmi just wanted naughty, yummy food!

And so in the train station I called at delice de France and bought a cheesy treat and a sweet delight.

Om. Naughty.

Altrincham market house

chicken, Foodie, Restaurant

A friend, long time unseen, visited me at work today for a lunch date. We went to the Altrincham Market House fort he first time and what a little gem it was!

Think, upper class food hall.

It’s a reasonably sized room with a collection of tables in the middle, around the outer edge there must be about 10 different mini food outlets (and a bar 😉) serving a collection from pizza to tapas to cakes!

The food seemed to average around £10 per meal and the atmosphere was just so cool and relaxed. I full on loved this place!! I’ll be back!

(I had the pie today, chicken, yum)

Smoked haddock and Parma ham risotto

Cook book, Easy Everyday Fast recipe book, Fish, Food

A perfect Sunday afternoon dinner.

Picture this. It’s brisk and bright outside and after sprightly, nippy dog walk, we come home to a toasty house. We crack open a bottle of Chardonnay (of course) and I whip up this scrumptious dish.

This is a great recipe for s number of reasons, it’s pretty fast for a risotto, it’s creamy and it has huge depths of flavor from the fish and ham. I highly recommend this dish, it’s wonderfully satisfying and rather filling.

Key lime pie

Baking, Cook book, Uncategorized, Weight watchers: Around the world

Desserts are sometimes a necessity, you can be super healthy, super motivated but we all need a treat now and again don’t we?

Contrary to our obvious correlation of dessert = fattening, we can do tasty, low fat puddings which don’t plump the podge!

I made this recently from the weight watchers cook book and my oh my was it one tasty treat! Made even better with the knowledge that it hadn’t ruined my gym workouts. (Please ignor the less than perfect piping)

Midweek movie night BURGER

Beef, Cook book, Food, Weight watchers: Around the world

It’s a late post folks but fear not, we did not miss movie night this past week!

This time around I opted for a burger from the weight watchers book to try and keep a little healthy but I really couldn’t see the difference between this burger and many others I have made. This leads me to believe all burgers are healthy! ( I wish. As you can see I added chips too so really, there was nothing healthy about this)

Healthy or not, it was blooming good and it stirred the claim from Gav of “best home made burger to date”.

The most naughty dessert I have EVER made!

Baking, Chocolate, Food, Foodie, Pinterest

You can not underestimate this dessert, it’s a mammoth monster of calories and deliciousness which is a very dangerous pairing.

The base is simply crushed Oreos and butter.

The middle layer is a mixture of peanut butter and more butter.

The topping is a lashing of melted chocolate and even more butter!

Yes it’s dangerous but wow is it divine to eat. I wouldn’t recommend you try this!

Asian crispy beef salad

Beef, Jamie Oliver, Jamie's superfoods

If you want healthy, tasty and creative food, this dish is for you!

This recipe contains great ingredients and different techniques which make for a great tasting, interesting dinner.

I’ve never made “crispy” beef before but it was so easy to do and it’s so effective and it really added an extra element to make this dish shine.

I loved the citrusy sauce that coated the salad and the textures made it a joy to eat.

Protein cookies

Baking, Chocolate, Foodie

Today I have been prepping for the week which included making his and hers protein cookies for an extra post gym protein hit!

These cookies are really simple and easy to do and consist mainly of whey powder and peanut butter. They are delish!

I like little nibbles like this, they taste great and I know when I eat them, I’m giving my body what it needs.

The BEST Sprout dish you will ever eat

Cook book, Food, Jamie Oliver, Jamie's comfort food, Spicy, Vegetarian

Jamie Oliver’s Comfort food cookbook is one that I particularly enjoy but for quite some time I’ve flicked past the quesadilla recipe which features sprouts as the main ingredient. Sprouts. It’s really never appealed to me on any level.

Alas, Christmas came and went and I found I had a small stockpile of raw sprouts left and so it seemed fate was telling me that this recipe needed to be tried.

As I was cooking I genuinely wished we were having a different dish, I quite honestly couldn’t imagine an enjoyable taste and my stomach yearned for something higher scoring on the naughty scale. But something wonderful happened, as I started to cook the sprout mixture in the butter the most amazing smell took over the kitchen and I knew I had been wrong!

Wow. Seriously, wow. This quesadilla was the tastiest I had ever eaten. The mixture retained the strong savory, earthy sprout taste but engaged with a buttery creamy flavor which was out of this world. Mixed in with some fresh spicy sauce we really did have a winning dish and I will be making this for any lucky guests.

It just shows…don’t judge the sprout.
