I loved making this, it required a few hours but it’s beauty in taste and look, makes the effort worth it!
Broken down it compromises of Kirsh cream mouseline and strawberries sandwiched between to thin sponge cake layers with a marzipan top. That makes it sound easy….it was not 😊
I made this for our local Rose Queen Festival, hence the roses on the top!
I like to please the fella every once in a while and as he is fond of root beer, I thought I’d envelope it in to a cake!
Super simple, just use the usual sponge cake recipe but add 3tbsp of root beer to give the sponge that added flavour.
Also, whip up a typical cream cheese frosting but again, add root beer to taste. Be careful here, add it slowly. If you add too much it will be too runny to use!
Sometimes you just need coffee and a bun ☺️

I was on top culinary form this weekend but failed miserably in the documentation department 😟
I think this was possibly due tho the fact that Gavin was home from China and so I was a tad preoccupied ☺️
Regardless, here’s an update of my antics:
Saturday night: A light dinner of bruschetta and tequila prawns. (Bruschetta: raw red tomato, red onion and garlic, all mixed up with a tossing of olive oil, balsamic vinegar and salt and pepper. Tequila prawns: prawns soaked in tequila, girdled with sweet peppers)
Sunday night: base burgers from the gourmet burger book. These were just a plain ham burger with all the trimmings.
Off the hook: I had some carrots and tofu which needed using or disposing of. So, I found a recipe for a tofu carrot cake! The tofu made the cake super moist!!!!
This week I made a baileys birthday cake for my mums birthday. Covered in a baileys cream cheese and filled with a fresh cream and raspberry filling it resulted in a terribly indulgent delight 😊
Even decorated with a homemade chocolate touch.
