I love making pasta, it’s easy and fun with great results.
This Saturday I spent hours rolling and cutting and ended up with a delicate spicy sausage pasta.
The dough (serves 4): 250g pasta flour, 250g semolina,3 eggs, 8 egg yolks. Simply mix the flour, pour it on to a clean surface, make a well, add the eggs, gently incorporate it all together until it’s a dough you can handle. Then knead until it’s smooth and elastic (about 5 minutes) wrap in cling film and chill until ready to shape.
To shape, split the dough in half for ease and then roll one half until it’s thin enough to put through a pasta machine, it wants to be rectangle shape. Roll it through the machine gradually dropping through the levels for an ultra thin shape. Then cut, I did tagliatelle, and dry. Boil now for 3 minutes if your ready but if you have leftovers, pop them in the freezer!
For the sauce: 250g spicy sausage meat, 1 onion, 1 garlic clove, a knob of butter, thyme.
Chop then fry, the onion, garlic and sausage meat. When browned add the thyme and butter. When cooked, add to the cooked pasta and serve!

A couple of days ago we went to watch War of the Workd in theatre, it was brilliant!
Whilst there we wanted a niche little place to eat and we happened to stumble across the cute little Italian/Mediterranean place.
It was tiny, gally style with maybe the capacity to sit 30 people (although there was another equally sized room downstairs) and had a real rustic feel to it. The staff were friendly and prompt.
I opted for a duck pasta and Jones chose the special, monkfish risotto. My pasta was delightful, a thick, seemingly homemade pasta with a delicately flavoured creamy sauce which really let the strength of the duck come through. I can’t speak for Gav but there was a clean plate!
With a bottle of Chardonnay our bill came to £60, not bad for two in London.

It’s Monday and so I will forgive those who just want an easy night after their return back to work after the weekend.
I however, pulled out the stops and made fresh pasta (plus the sauce) from scratch!
Actually, if you haven’t made pasta before, it’s really easy and not that time consuming. It’s simply 1 egg for every 100g of “00 flour” used (you can split the flour to combine semolina if you want to rack it up a level), you mix it, knead it until smooth and chill for 30 minutes. Then, roll, shake and cook in boiling water for about 3 minutes.
Tonight I made a creamy tomato pasta sauce to go with it. Really tasty and completely worth the effort.
As an additional bonus, work sucks a little right now and so this offered some great therapy to relax me after a bit of a pants day.
About to see Deadpool!!! 😃 And as per our typical pre cinema routine we rock up at a local eatery, eat, drink and then watch! Today we went for Bella Italia!
We started with some seriously nommy cheesy garlic bread. This one was a caramelized onion option and it was fought over by us both! It’s was super sweet, but super amazeballs!
Gav followed the starter with a beef and red wine pasta dish, I didn’t try it but have it on good authority that it was “nice”.
We of course shared some wine!!
I opted for pasta with shredded duck and a sweet Chinese sauce. It’s an odd combo I know, but I really enjoyed it.
And we shared some deep fried Courgette. I’ve never had these before but I sure as will again!
Overall, a decent meal and for £40….no complaints!
I have often bypassed this recipe for no other reason that lamb seems weird with pasta….right?
I know it shouldn’t. We have meat with pasta in many dishes but I’ve just never had a lamb pasta dish and I couldn’t quite get my imagined taste buds around it!
However, I took the plunge and I finally cooked this dish and much to my delight and surprise, it was spectacular!
The sauce was savory and rich, oozing a meaty depth after simmering with the lamb for 45 minutes. The lamb was tender and buttery and this combination paired with a fresh pasta base was throughly enjoyable.
The added bonus was that the recipe calls for wine which meant we had an open bottle that needed drinking!
Worried about eating lamb and pasta? Worry no more.
Chorizo is delicious isn’t it?
I wanted a tasty dinner to end my working week but by the time Friday hits me I need a dinner which quite frankly doesn’t take too much effort. So, I found this easy and fast pasta recipie which has chorizo in and thought, perfect!
Cooking this simply entailed frying and boiling, it could not have been more simple but the outcome was deceptive! A spicy, moorish hug in a bowl.
It’s Monday folks.
For me, Monday requires a healthy dinner to kick start the week but I’m typically still yearning for the weekend past and so although healthy, it must hold lots of appeal. (Else wise my stomach may lead me astray)
“Appeal” to me today presented itself in the form of “comfort” and what offers more comfort than pasta?
I rustled up a Cannelloni dish from a supremely old weight watchers book. Typically I’d consider it a little boring but it was hearty, with a deep tomato sauce and best of all, it was healthy. I am going to bed satisfied and carbed up for the mornings gym session!
After a 5.45 am start, a 90 minute gym session, a long day in the office and a pitch black dog walk…tonight my body craved carbs!
I whipped up this simple yet tasty tomato and chicken pasta (it would have been 100% healthy too if not for the cheeky addition of creme fraiche)
- Boil some Whole wheat pasta
- Whilst it boiling fry Shallots and Courgette in Olive oil
- Add a tin of chopped Tomatoes
- Stir in cooked chicken breast pieces and the Creme Fraiche
- Mix into the pasta and sprinkle with Parmesan to taste.
Easy peasy and done in under 20 minutes. It doesn’t lack on flavor either however if I was dining alone I would have been tempted to slip in a full chili!!
A Friday night fast fix was required last night and so I opted for a spaghetti carbonara.
Gavin happens to love creamy pasta dishes and so I was on to a winner before I even started!
As you would expect from a carbonara it took very little time to prepare and cook. The only slight problem I had was that I added the eggy cream mix whilst the pan was too hot and so the eggs scrambled slightly, regardless of this it was a tasty, creamy, sweet dish.

2 chicken Breast
200g Pasta (your choice)
A bunch of Asparagus
2 Garlic cloves
1 tsp of paprika
1 tbsp of Soured cream
salt and pepper
1. Cook the pasta
2. Griddle the chicken in oil and the crushed Garlic
3. When cooked, add the asparagus and paprika
4. Add the cooked pasta and soured cream, season to taste and serve
I found it really creamy and quite sweet despite having only the small dollop of soured cream, the chicken was super tender and overall, it was a great mid week dish……..something I would defo whip up again!
